Rachel McAdams from 'Mean Girls' Surprises Fans with Unexpected 'SNL' Cameo, Introducing Reneé Rapp, and Special Performance Featuring Megan Thee Stallion"
In a delightful nod from one Regina George to another,
Rachel McAdams, the original queen bee from the iconic 2004 movie "Mean
Girls," made a surprise appearance on the January 20 episode of
"Saturday Night Live" to introduce the musical guest, Reneé Rapp. It
turns out that Rapp takes on the role of Regina in the 2024 musical remake of
the beloved film.
The audience erupted in enthusiastic applause as McAdams
took the stage to welcome the new Regina. Following the introduction, Rapp
delivered a captivating performance of her song "Not My Fault," a
tune she penned for the movie. Adding to the star power, she was joined on
stage by Megan Thee Stallion. The musical act was followed by a humorous sketch
where McAdams returned, this time playing Natalie Partman, an actor facing the
challenge of landing roles due to her striking resemblance to Rachel McAdams.
McAdams, the real one, has been notably absent from recent
"Mean Girls" events, making her surprise SNL appearance even more
exciting. The original film featured Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey
Chabert, who recently reunited for a Walmart commercial. Interestingly, Lohan
also made a cameo at the New York City premiere of the remake.
While Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprised their roles in the
musical remake, McAdams did not. In a recent interview with Variety, she
shared, “Tina and I sort of dabbled with a few ideas, but it was tough to make
it all work in the end. I was really down for whatever she wanted to do. I
think the direction it went in will be fantastic, and I cannot wait to see it.”
McAdams also clarified her absence from the Walmart
commercial, stating, “I don’t know; I guess I wasn’t that excited about doing a
commercial if I’m being totally honest. A movie sounded awesome, but I’ve never
done commercials, and it just didn’t feel like my bag. Also, I didn’t know that
everyone was doing it. I would, of course, always love to be part of a ‘Mean
Girls’ reunion and hang with my plastics, but yeah, I found that out later.”
With McAdams making a surprise return on SNL, fans of
"Mean Girls" got an unexpected treat, adding another layer of
excitement to the ongoing buzz surrounding the beloved movie and its talented
cast.
