Casting Revealed for Les Misérables Arena Tour
The initial casting for the world tour of Les Misérables the Arena Spectacular has been unveiled.
The production will feature a groundbreaking new design specifically tailored for arenas and large theaters, accommodating audiences of 3,000 to 5,000. A UK company comprising over 110 actors, musicians, and crew members will take part, with guest stars making appearances at various venues. This staging expands upon the concert version of the show that captivated audiences in London's West End throughout 2019.
Based on Victor Hugo's novel, the enduring musical boasts music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Additional material is by James Fenton, with adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. The story follows the journey of a former convict seeking redemption amidst the backdrop of revolutionary France.
The tour will kick off at the SSE Arena Belfast on September 19, 2024, running until September 28, 2024. Following its Belfast engagement, the production will have limited performances at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro Arena from October 3 to 6, Sheffield’s Utilita Arena from October 10 to 13, and Aberdeen’s P & J Live Arena from October 17 to 20.
Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly will alternate in the role of Jean Valjean, while Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden will share the role of Javert in the UK leg.
Afterward, the tour will embark on its European leg, visiting Luxembourg from October 25 to 27, followed by stops in Geneva, Trieste, Milan, Copenhagen, Oslo, and Zurich. The final UK performances will take place in Manchester at the AO Arena from December 26 to 29 and at the Utilita Arena Newcastle from January 2 to 5, 2025, before continuing to Sweden, Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea.
Tickets for UK dates and select European shows will go on general sale on Thursday, October 12, 2023, with priority booking available starting tomorrow. The concert will coincide with the 40th anniversary celebrations of the musical in 2025, after which it will tour North and South America.
